Homemade Jamaican Jerk Seasoning Blend

First, I have to start this post by saying CONGRATS to my friend Sherita Mae (she’ll never lose that nickname) and her husband on their new baby boy! She gave birth just last week and he is the cutest little boy EVER. Such a blessing. Anyway, I’ll stop gushing BUT I say all of that to say this recipe came out of sheer panic when I was making a dish for her and her family. Being a new mom she doesn’t have much time to cook so I figured I would make a couple dishes and take them over. So…I’m in the middle of making some jerk chicken pasta and I’m searching through my spice cabinet for the jerk seasoning. I know it’s here. I use it ALL the damn time. Yes! There it is. I grab the jar and there is literally like 2 pinches of spice left. What the hell?! Who used all of my jerk seasoning?! Oh that’s right. I DID. At that point I wasn’t about to run back to the store so I did a quick search online and found a couple recipes. I figured I could create a little mix of my own based on what I already had in my spice cabinet.  This "recipe", if you want to call it that, takes 5 minutes to throw together AND you don't have to worry about any preservatives or additives found in some of those store bought blends.

Homemade Jamaican Jerk Seasoning Blend

  • 2 Teaspoons onion powder
  • 2 Teaspoons cayenne pepper
  • 2 Teaspoons dried thyme
  • 2 Teaspoons dried parsley
  • 2 Teaspoons salt
  • 2 Teaspoons sugar
  • 1 Teaspoon paprika
  • 1 Teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 Teaspoon ground allspice
  • ½ Teaspoon crushed red pepper
  • ½ Teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ Teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ¼ Teaspoon ground cinnamon

Combine all ingredients and store in an airtight container.  It’s that simple.
